Cleanout Pricing
Pond Cleaning Cost in Massachusetts and New England
We price cleanouts the same way every time: by pond size and current condition, with the number confirmed on a short phone call before we book anything. Our crews have cleaned more than 1,000 ponds across New England since 2008, so the estimate you see here is built on real job history, not guesswork.
Estimate your cleanout cost
Move both sliders to see where your pond lands. Two inputs, one starting number.
90 ft2
About 8x11 or smaller
Within the past year
Starting at
$1,300
Minimum Cleanout, up to 90 sq ft
This is a starting estimate for planning only. Final pricing depends on pond depth, condition, fish load, and site access, and is confirmed after a quick phone consultation. Rates apply to features not previously cleaned by us. Ponds deeper than 2.5 feet may cost more.
What a professional cleanout includes
- •Drain the feature and move fish to a holding tank for safe handling
- •Light rinse of rock and liner surfaces that preserves the biofilm
- •Skimmer and biofalls media rinsed and cleaned, not stripped or replaced
- •Pump, plumbing, lighting, and equipment inspection for winter damage
- •Dechlorinated refill so incoming water is safe for fish
- •Beneficial bacteria startup to restart the biology on the right foot
What affects your cleaning cost
Pond size
Surface area drives labor and water volume. Our cleanout rates step up at 90, 180, and 340 square feet.
Depth
Anything deeper than 2.5 feet takes longer to drain, clean, and refill, so deep ponds carry an additional charge.
Time since the last cleaning
Every season without a professional cleaning adds sediment and breakdown work. Two or three seasons of buildup can add 10 to 20 percent.
Debris and sludge load
Heavy leaf fall, pine needles, and accumulated muck all mean more removal and haul-away time.
Fish load
A heavily stocked pond needs more careful handling, more holding capacity, and closer water treatment during the refill.
Site access
Tight side yards, long hose runs, steep grades, and limited water or power access all add time to the visit.
Inherited a pond, or has it been a few seasons?
Features that have not been cleaned in several years usually start with an Exploratory Drain and Clean so we can see how the system was built and what condition the equipment is in before quoting ongoing care. You can read how that service works on our Exploratory Drain and Clean page.
