WHEN A POND ISN’T PERFORMING THE WAY IT SHOULD
Pond Repair and Pond Renovation in Massachusetts and New England
Leaking liners, settled waterfalls, undersized pumps and ponds that never worked right. We have repaired more than 2,000 ponds across New England, most of them built by someone else, and we start with a free phone consultation.
Pond repair near you, across New England
We repair ponds throughout Massachusetts from our base in Cherry Valley, Worcester County, including Central Massachusetts, MetroWest, Greater Boston and the South Shore. Local pages cover pond repair in Worcester, pond renovation in Wellesley and pond leak repair in Plymouth. Frost heave, tree roots and freeze and thaw cycles cause most of the failures we see, and Massachusetts repairs can usually be scheduled within the season.
Repairs in Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire are scheduled in blocks so the crew can drain, diagnose and return for follow-up work on the same trip. That covers Hartford County, Greater Providence and the Merrimack Valley into New Hampshire. See pond repair in Hartford, pond repair in Cranston and pond repair in Nashua, or find your town on the service area page.
A repair done right is a repair that lasts.
Ponds can look simple, but a single detail left out during the original build can compromise the entire system. Whether your pond was installed by a landscaper, by a pond contractor who is no longer in business, or by you, if it is not performing the way it should, we can help.
If you are not sure what is actually wrong, especially if the pond has not been cleaned recently, the right first step is an Exploratory Drain and Clean. We empty the pond, do a full cleanout, and run leak detection. Once we know what is wrong, we either fix it on the spot or build a plan for more extensive repairs.
When fixing it is not enough.
Sometimes returning a water feature to working order is not enough to make you happy. If you have inherited a pond that no longer looks good, or you have lived with one that never looked right, a full renovation is often the better path.
We rebuild tired ponds into features worth a photoshoot. The goal is a water feature that makes you happy every time you look at it.
Before
AfterRepairs we specialize in.
Leaks and water loss
Finding where the water is going, then stopping it for good.
Broken or failing plumbing
Cracked unions, failed check valves, undersized lines reworked properly.
Poor or undersized filtration
Filtration matched to the actual fish load and water volume, not theoretical minimums.
Low or settled edges
Re-leveling the perimeter where water has been escaping into the surrounding soil.
Old, torn, or failing liner
Liner repair when sensible, full liner replacement when the right call.
Cloudy, green, or discolored water
Diagnosing the biology so the pond clears and stays clear.
Pump replacement and upgrades
Right-sized, efficient pumps that deliver the flow the feature was designed for.
Waterfall and stream rebuilds
Rebuilding tired or poorly set falls so they finally look and sound the way they should.
Beyond these, we also handle complete water feature rebuilds.

Pond renovation: when to rebuild instead of repair
Most pond repairs start with an Exploratory Drain and Clean, from $1,300 for ponds up to 90 sq ft and $2,500 up to 180 sq ft. We empty the pond, clean it and look at the liner, plumbing and rockwork with no water in the way. Then you get a real answer instead of a guess.
A repair makes sense when the pond is basically sound: a puncture from a root, a cracked union, a waterfall box that settled and leaks behind the spillway. Small repairs run roughly $1,300 to $3,750. Pond renovation makes sense when the problems are built in. A cheap PVC liner gone brittle, a pond so shallow it freezes solid, no skimmer, an undersized pump, or a preformed or kit pond that has never stayed clear.
Mid-size renovations run roughly $3,750 to $5,000, and full renovations $5,000 and up, often much more for a complete rebuild. A renovation can add a skimmer and biofalls, add depth for fish, replace the liner, rebuild the falls and convert a kit pond into a true ecosystem pond. Some owners convert an old pond into a pondless waterfall instead.
Koi pond repair without losing fish
Koi pond repair adds one job to every other: keeping the fish safe while the pond is empty. Before we drain anything, your koi go into a holding tank filled with their own pond water, aerated and shaded. They stay there while we find the leak, patch or replace the liner, and fix plumbing or filtration.
When the pond is refilled, we use dechlorinated water and match the temperature before the fish go back in. Moving koi straight from a holding tank into colder or chlorinated water is how repairs turn into losses.
Many koi ponds need more than a patch. Shallow ponds leave koi exposed to herons and short on room under the ice. Filtration sized for a few goldfish cannot handle grown koi. A renovation can add depth, fish caves and filtration matched to the actual fish load. If the problem is routine care rather than a failure, our koi pond maintenance service keeps it from coming back. For cost context, read our koi pond cost guide.
