Repairs and Renovations We Handle
Most calls start with a pond that keeps losing water. We find the leak, whether it is a puncture, a low edge, or a waterfall box that settled and now leaks behind the spillway, and repair it. Bigger projects include full liner replacement, waterfall and stream rebuilds, and adding a skimmer or biofalls to a pond that never had real filtration.
We also deepen shallow ponds for fish, add fish caves, auto-fill valves, and lighting, and convert kit ponds or preformed shells into true ecosystem ponds. Some owners choose to turn an old pond into a pondless waterfall.
What Breaks Ponds in the River Valley
Connecticut's growing zone is a little warmer than central Massachusetts, but winters still bring freeze and thaw cycles that heave rocks and stress liners. River valley soils with clay hold water and move as they freeze, which can pull a liner edge down and create a slow leak.
Larger lots in Glastonbury, Simsbury, and Farmington often have ponds under mature trees, where roots can puncture old liners and leaves overwhelm ponds with no skimmer. Older PVC liners from earlier installs turn brittle and crack.
Repair and Renovation Budgets
Small repairs run roughly $1,300 to $3,750. Mid-size renovations run roughly $3,750 to $5,000, and full renovations are $5,000 and up, often much more for a complete rebuild.
Many Connecticut projects begin with an Exploratory Drain and Clean, roughly $1,300 to $2,500, so the crew can see the liner, plumbing, and rockwork empty before quoting. Liner size, how much rock has to be pulled and reset, access for equipment, and whether filtration is being added are what move the final number.
How a Connecticut Renovation Comes Together
It begins with a free phone consultation, plus photos if you have them. Shawn then visits for the on-site Discovery Meeting, and if the problem is hidden, we schedule an Exploratory Drain and Clean to see it. Final pricing follows.
Because we work in Connecticut in scheduled blocks, we stage the repair, materials, and any follow-up visits together. That keeps your project moving without long gaps and lets us check the pond after it has run for a while. Financing through Hearth is available with 2 to 12 year terms.

Frequently asked questions
How do you find a pond leak?
We start by checking the usual suspects: low spots along the edge, the waterfall box and spillway, and plumbing connections at the skimmer. Then we let the water level drop and watch where it stops, which narrows the leak to a band around the pond. If needed, a full drain lets us inspect the liner directly.
Is it worth renovating an old pond or should I start over?
If the excavation is sound and the liner is EPDM in decent shape, renovation usually makes sense. If the pond has a brittle PVC liner, a cracked preformed shell, or is too shallow for fish, rebuilding on the same footprint often costs less over time. We give you both options after seeing it.
Do you travel throughout Connecticut for pond repairs?
Our Connecticut work centers on Hartford County and the river valley, including Enfield, Glastonbury, Hartford, Manchester, Simsbury, Suffield, West Hartford, Windsor, Farmington, and Avon. We schedule the state in blocks from Cherry Valley. If you are outside those towns, call and we will tell you whether your project fits a scheduled trip.
Can you add a skimmer to a pond that never had one?
Yes, and it is one of the most effective upgrades for an older pond. We cut in a skimmer at the downwind end, pair it with a biofalls filter, and replumb the pump. The pond then catches leaves before they sink, and water clarity improves within a season.
