Bitten by the Water Bug: A Four-Piece Fountainscape
Attleboro, MA · $30,000 to $35,000
Fountainscape · Pondless Reservoir · Uplighting · Third Project for a Returning Client
For this Attleboro family, one water feature was just the beginning.
Our relationship started in 2023, when we designed and installed an intimate koi pond in their backyard. Koi, aquatic plants and underwater lighting brought it to life, and carefully kept gardens around it gave them color all season. It quickly became their favorite place to relax.
In 2024 they brought moving water to the front of the house. We set three Mongolian basalt columns at the entrance, with uplighting, so the homeowner is greeted by the sound of water every time he comes home.
This family had been bitten by the water bug.

A New Vision Beyond the Kitchen Window
With a pond out back and basalt columns out front, they turned to one last space: a well-kept stretch of lawn that still felt a little lifeless.
Looking out the kitchen window, they pictured moving water. They wanted to hear it from inside the house and enjoy it from the patio when friends came over. Since they had already trusted us with two projects, they invited us to listen to their ideas and design a one-of-a-kind fountainscape for that spot.

Four Elements, One Design
We combined four pieces to create different heights, textures and patterns of falling water: a 55-inch stacked slate urn, a 45-inch stacked slate urn, a 32-inch stacked slate sphere and a 40-inch custom-cut slate spillway bowl.
Each piece has its own movement and sound. Together they create a scene the homeowners can enjoy from the kitchen windows and the patio. Accent boulders and river rock, chosen to match the existing pond, tie the new feature into the rest of the landscape.

The Details Beneath the Surface
What you see starts with what you don't. A concealed reservoir holds about 340 gallons, enough to supply all four elements. There is no open water to maintain, just the sight and sound of it.
Hidden plumbing and manifolds let us adjust the flow to each piece separately. That is how we fine-tuned the movement, sound and splash so each element sounds right from the places the family actually sits. A variable-speed pump (about 4,000 to 7,000 gallons per hour) lets us turn the whole feature up or down, and an auto-fill valve keeps the water level topped off on its own.
The Finishing Touch After Dark
Uplighting was the final layer. LEDs light the falling water and bring out the texture of the stacked slate and the spillway bowl, with a brighter light on the taller urn. When the sun goes down, the fountainscape becomes a different experience, still easy to enjoy from the patio or through the windows.
For the homeowners, the lighting was the detail that put the project over the top.

Three Projects, One Property
From the koi pond in 2023, to the basalt columns in 2024, to this fountainscape in 2026, each project has brought moving water into another part of their daily life.
They now have water to welcome them home, a pond to unwind beside, and a once-quiet stretch of lawn that has become a view they love. Their backyard feels complete, and they could not be happier.
Returning Client
Third project for the same family: koi pond (2023), entrance basalt columns (2024), fountainscape (2026).
Four Elements, Tuned One by One
Each urn, the sphere and the bowl has its own adjustable flow so it sounds right from the kitchen and the patio.
No Open Water
Everything recirculates from a hidden 340-gallon reservoir.
Lit for the Evening
Uplighting turns the feature into a nighttime view.

A note from Shawn
"Every project teaches us something new. This one reminded me why I got into this business, the moment a homeowner sees their finished feature for the first time is worth every hour of work."
If This Sounds Like You…
This is the one to look at if you have been thinking:
- •"We have a plain stretch of lawn we look at every day."
- •"We want the sound of water without another pond to care for."
- •"We already have a water feature and want to bring it to another part of the yard."
A fountainscape gives you the sight and sound of moving water with nothing to swim in and nothing to net. Pair it with what you already have, and the whole property starts to feel connected.
