This family was no stranger to the pond lifestyle. The husband reached out after years of enjoying their original pond, ready to explore renovations and upgrades. He had found us through our Google reviews and our social media, and once he saw the work, he knew he didn't need to look any further.
After sharing photos and talking through options, it became clear that repairing the old pond wasn't the right long-term answer. That pond had been built more than 20 years earlier by a previous owner, and it had developed multiple leaks. The family had been refilling it daily for nearly two years.
So we made the call together: remove it completely and build something new, reliable, and beautiful enough to match the character of a landscape that had been maturing for over a decade.
That maturity is exactly what made this build hard.
The Problems They Faced

- •Solid ledge hidden beneath the old pond, in the way of the new depth
- •A tangle of low-voltage wiring and irrigation lines running directly under the pond
- •A mature, established landscape that could not be torn up to make room
Why This One Had To Be Carried
Most pond rebuilds start with a machine in the driveway. This one could not. The couple had lived here more than a decade and their landscaping had grown into a genuine oasis, which left no path in for equipment.
- •Over 4 tons of rock, carried by hand
- •15 buckets of pond gravel, carried by hand
- •Liner, underlayment, pump and all plumbing, carried by hand
- •Every load went up a set of stairs and across a hardscaped walkway and patio
Then, once we were down, we hit solid ledge and had to cut and jackhammer through it to reach the two-foot depth. Underneath that sat a spaghetti mess of low-voltage wiring and irrigation lines that had to be carefully rerouted and protected before we could keep going.
What Was There Before
Two decades of age had caught up with the original pond. The leaks were constant, the structure was failing, and the daily refilling had turned a water feature into a chore.
Repairing it would have meant paying twice: once for the patch, and again in a few years for the rebuild it still needed.
Built By Hand, Rock By Rock
The homeowners wanted a pond that would be low maintenance, dependable, and a genuine complement to their home's front entrance, without the constant worry of leaks or refilling. They trusted Shawn's creative artistry completely and gave him the freedom to design something special.
Every rock was placed by hand because there was no other way to get it there.
The Mystery Waterfall
What began as a small, aging pond became a 12' x 10' ecosystem pond, two feet deep, with a five-foot stream and multiple waterfalls running through it.
One of those waterfalls is hidden. You cannot see where it comes from at first, but you can hear it from the bedroom window. Color-changing underwater LED lights, controlled by remote, carry the whole feature into the evening.
Designed So They Never Have To Think About It
An autofill valve offsets evaporation, so the water level stays right even while they travel. A full aquatic plant package and a two-year specimen potted lily bring colour and natural filtration through the season.
Our team handles biweekly maintenance through the pond season. The family's only job is to enjoy the view from their own front door.
