Pond Cleaning and Maintenance in Providence, Rhode Island
New England Aquatic Landscaping cleans and maintains backyard ponds in Providence, from full spring cleanouts to recurring service plans. Our crew drains the pond, protects your fish, and resets the filtration so the water clears and stays clear. In Providence, small city lots and tight side yards shape how we work, since equipment and holding tanks have to fit through narrow access.

Inside a Spring Cleanout
We move your fish into a holding tank filled with their own pond water, then drain the pond and pull out the muck, leaves, and sludge. Rocks and gravel get power washed, not sterilized, so the beneficial bacteria survive. Filters are cleaned, and we check the pump and plumbing for wear.
Plants are divided and repotted. Once the pond is refilled and treated for chlorine, we bring the holding tank water and pond water to the same temperature before the fish go home. Cold water beneficial bacteria go in when the water is under 50 degrees, and we hold off on feeding until the water is consistently 55°F.
Pond Care in a Providence Yard
Providence sits at the head of Narragansett Bay, so winters are a bit milder than central Massachusetts, but hard freezes still crack stone and shift edges. Older city neighborhoods have mature shade trees, and that leaf load lands in ponds every fall. Small courtyard ponds fill with debris faster than larger ones because there is less water to dilute it.
Access matters here. We plan hose runs, tank placement, and debris removal around narrow driveways and fenced yards. Rhode Island visits are scheduled in blocks from our Cherry Valley base.
Cleanout and Service Plan Pricing
A minimum cleanout for a small pond runs roughly $1,300 to $2,500. An average cleanout runs roughly $2,500 to $5,000, and advanced cleanouts run $5,000 and up. By size, ponds up to 90 square feet run about $2,264 to $5,409 depending on Standard, Premium, or VIP level.
Ongoing care is available too. Premium plans run roughly $460 to $609 per month by pond size, and VIP Stress Free plans run roughly $710 to $859 per month with visits every two weeks.
Booking Your Providence Service
Call and tell us the pond size, how many fish you keep, and when it was last cleaned. For a new client, Shawn Cutroni or a crew lead does a Discovery Meeting on site to look at the pond, access, and equipment before pricing.
Spring cleanouts book quickly, so we fill Rhode Island blocks early in the season. Fall netting and winter prep are separate seasonal services, and many Providence owners book both visits at once. Plan clients get their visits locked into each block automatically.
Why Providence homeowners call us
Providence pond owners call us because a proper cleanout is more than draining and hosing. We have cleaned more than 1,000 ponds across New England, and our crew knows how to protect fish and bacteria in a small city pond where one bad cleaning can set the whole ecosystem back a season.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a backyard pond be fully cleaned out?
One full drain and clean each spring is the right rhythm for nearly every ecosystem pond. Ponds without a skimmer, ponds under heavy tree cover, or ponds with a large fish load may need more attention. A monthly service plan keeps debris from building up between cleanouts, so the spring visit goes faster.
Do you service small courtyard ponds in Providence?
Yes. Many Providence ponds are compact, and they need the same care as larger ones. Smaller ponds can actually swing faster in water quality, since there is less volume to buffer leaves and fish waste. Pricing reflects the smaller square footage.
Will my fish be safe during a cleanout?
We hold fish in a tank filled with their own pond water, so they stay in familiar chemistry. After the pond is refilled with dechlorinated water, we match temperatures before releasing them. Rushing that step is how fish get stressed, and we do not rush it.
When should I start feeding my fish in spring?
Wait until the water is consistently 55°F. Below that, fish digest slowly and uneaten food fouls the water. In Providence that usually lands later than people expect, even after a few warm days in April. A pond thermometer takes the guesswork out.
