Ecosystem Pond Builders in Belmont, Massachusetts

New England Aquatic Landscaping designs and builds ecosystem ponds, koi ponds, and waterfalls for Belmont homeowners. Belmont lots are often compact and established, with mature trees and older landscaping, so the pond has to fit the space you have and handle the heavy load of leaves that come down every fall.

What We Build and Why It Stays Clear

Our ponds follow the Aquascape ecosystem method. A skimmer catches leaves and debris before they sink, and a biological waterfall filter returns clean water over the stones. Rock and gravel cover a 45 mil EPDM liner on underlayment, giving beneficial bacteria room to work.

Plants on shelves along the edges absorb nutrients, and fish keep the cycle going. The water recirculates, so there is no hose running in all season. Standard depth is 2 ft, enough for fish to overwinter under ice with proper circulation, and auto-fill is an option.

Fitting a Pond Into a Belmont Yard

Many Belmont homes come with yards shaped by decades of plantings and tall trees. That usually means working around root zones, finding the best view from the patio or kitchen window, and planning equipment access through a side yard.

Soil here mixes ledge with glacial till. Ledge can limit depth in spots, so we adjust the layout rather than force it. A heavy fall leaf load makes a properly sized skimmer essential, and building in fall lets plants settle before spring arrives.

How Much a Belmont Pond Costs

Four packages set the frame for design. The Serenity Oasis, 6 by 8 ft and 2 ft deep, runs $15,000 to $20,000 and suits smaller yards. The Garden Jewel, 8 by 10 ft, runs $25,000 to $29,000. Larger yards can take a Backyard Haven, 10 by 15 ft, at $31,000 to $42,000, or a Luxury Retreat, 20 by 15 ft, at $110,000 to $142,000.

Waterfalls add roughly $1,500 to $13,500, streams roughly $2,650 to $18,000, and lighting packages roughly $3,500 to $7,700. Plan on roughly $25 to $75 per month in electricity while the pond runs.

    Design, Build, Enjoy

First comes a free phone consultation about the pond you picture. Then Shawn visits for the on-site Discovery Meeting, looks at sun, slope, trees, and access, and designs a pond around your Belmont yard. You receive final pricing after that visit, with Hearth financing available on 2 to 12 year terms.

Build days cover excavation, underlayment and liner, the skimmer and biofalls, plumbing, rockwork, and planting. We fill and start the system, confirm everything runs, and introduce fish when the water is ready.

    Why Belmont homeowners call us

Belmont homeowners call us because a small, older yard needs a builder who designs around what is already there. We completed a formal pond renovation in Newton, have built more than 200 water features in New England, and were named Aquascape's 2026 Regional CAC of the Year. Shawn, a combat veteran, has been building since 2008.

Full details, photos, and pricing tiers are on the Ecosystem Ponds service page, and our pricing calculator gives a ballpark before we visit.

    Frequently asked questions

Is my Belmont yard big enough for a pond?

Most are. Our smallest package, the Serenity Oasis, is 6 by 8 ft and still holds plants, fish, and a waterfall filter. If space is very tight, a pondless waterfall or fountainscape gives you water sound with a smaller footprint. We help you weigh those options during the Discovery Meeting.

Will leaves from my trees ruin the pond?

They will not ruin it, but they need a plan. A properly sized skimmer pulls floating leaves before they sink, and fall netting catches most of the rest. Each spring, a cleanout removes what settled. Placing the pond away from the heaviest trees also reduces the load.

Is there ledge under Belmont yards, and what if you hit it?

We adjust. Sometimes the pond shifts a few feet to avoid it, sometimes we use the ledge as a natural shelf or rock feature, and sometimes we change the shape to keep 2 ft of depth where fish need it. Ledge is common in this area, and we plan for the possibility.

Do you build koi ponds as well?

Yes. Koi ponds use the same ecosystem principles with more depth, more filtration, and extra attention to fish health. Koi grow large, so we size the pond and equipment for adult fish rather than the small ones you start with. We discuss your fish plans at the Discovery Meeting.
