Ecosystem Pond Design and Construction in North Kingstown, Rhode Island

We design and build ecosystem ponds in North Kingstown that clean themselves through a skimmer, a biological waterfall filter, plants, and a stone bottom full of bacteria. Along Narragansett Bay, wind and salt exposure are the local factors that matter most, so plant selection, waterfall height, and pond placement are planned for the conditions each North Kingstown yard sees.

The Parts of a Balanced Pond

Our ponds are built on the Aquascape ecosystem method. A skimmer at the surface captures leaves and needles and protects the pump. A biological falls filter at the top of the waterfall gives bacteria a home. Plants shade the water and absorb nutrients, and fish complete the cycle.

We install underlayment and a 45 mil EPDM liner, then cover it with rock and gravel. Ponds are built 2 feet deep with plant shelves, recirculate their water, and can include an auto-fill valve so evaporation is handled for you.

    Building Near Narragansett Bay

North Kingstown sits on the western shore of Narragansett Bay in Washington County. Winters are milder than in central Massachusetts, but hard freezes still come, so depth and circulation are the same as anywhere we build. Soils tend toward sand and loam, which dig easily and drain well.

On exposed properties, salt air and wind shape the design. We favor hardy plants, keep spray from a tall falls under control, and site the pond where it gets some shelter. Our crew travels from Cherry Valley, Massachusetts, and books Rhode Island projects in blocks.

Ranges for a North Kingstown Pond

Pricing follows pond size. Expect $15,000 to $20,000 for a Serenity Oasis (6 by 8 feet), $25,000 to $29,000 for a Garden Jewel (8 by 10 feet), $31,000 to $42,000 for a Backyard Haven (10 by 15 feet), and $110,000 to $142,000 for a Luxury Retreat (20 by 15 feet).

Waterfalls range roughly $1,500 to $13,500 by drop, and streams roughly $2,650 to $18,000 by length. Exposure, stone quantity, and access shape the final quote. Expect roughly $25 to $75 per month in electricity during the season, and ask about Hearth financing on 2 to 12 year terms.

    From Consultation to Completion

Begin with a free phone consultation so we understand the property and what you want from it. Shawn Cutroni then meets you on site for a Discovery Meeting, studies wind, sun, and soil, and designs the pond for your North Kingstown yard. Final pricing follows.

Your project is scheduled into our next Rhode Island block. The crew builds from excavation through planting and fish, and we review seasonal care before we leave. Fall builds give plants time to root before spring.

    Frequently asked questions

Will salt air hurt pond plants in North Kingstown?

Some plants handle salt exposure better than others. On properties close to the water, we choose hardier marginals and site the pond where buildings, fences, or plantings break the wind. Inland lots in North Kingstown rarely need special treatment, and Shawn will tell you which category your yard falls into.

Does a pond need to be deeper in Rhode Island?

No. Our standard 2 foot depth lets fish overwinter under ice across New England with proper circulation. Rhode Island winters are milder than central Massachusetts, but hard freezes still happen, so we build to the same standard everywhere and size circulation to keep the fish comfortable.

How far ahead should I plan a coastal Rhode Island build?

Because we schedule Rhode Island in blocks, reaching out a season ahead helps. A call in late winter can line up a spring or early summer build, and a call in summer can set up a fall build, which is a strong season for planting.

What makes an ecosystem pond different from a kit pond?

A kit pond is usually a liner and a pump with no skimmer or biological filter, so it fills with leaves and turns green. An ecosystem pond adds a skimmer, a biofalls filter, rock and gravel, plants, and fish, so it maintains itself far better.
