    Pond care on city lots

Many Boston ponds sit in courtyards or small rear gardens with no driveway access. Hoses, pumps, and holding tanks may have to move through a gate, an alley, or even the house. We plan the route ahead of time, protect floors and paths, and bring equipment sized for the space.

Smaller urban ponds and fountainscapes also tend to collect debris faster relative to their size, since there is less water to dilute it. Regular attention keeps them clear, and a well timed spring cleanout resets the season.

    Inside a Boston cleanout

Fish are moved to a holding tank filled with their own water. We drain the pond and remove sludge and leaves, often by bucket in tight spaces. Rocks and gravel are power washed but never sterilized, preserving beneficial bacteria. The skimmer, filter, pump, and plumbing are cleaned and checked.

Plants are thinned, divided, and repotted. We refill with dechlorinated water and return fish once temperatures match. For larger properties in the outer neighborhoods, the process is the same; there is just more room to work and often more pond to clean.

    Cleanout and plan pricing

Small pond cleanouts run roughly $1,300 to $2,500, average cleanouts roughly $2,500 to $5,000, and advanced work $5,000 and up. By size and service level, ponds up to 90 square feet run about $2,264 to $5,409, up to 180 square feet about $2,437 to $6,075, and up to 340 square feet about $2,767 to $6,544.

Ongoing care runs roughly $460 to $609 per month for Premium and roughly $710 to $859 per month for VIP Stress Free. Access constraints, carry distance, and parking all affect Boston pricing.

    Scheduling and access

Call for a free phone consultation and describe your pond, the access, and any building or parking issues. We look at photos or visit in person, then confirm pricing and a date.

Our crew travels in from Cherry Valley, so we group Boston visits to make the trip efficient. Let us know about building rules on work hours, where we can park, and how water can be drained. With that settled up front, cleanout day runs smoothly and neighbors barely notice we were there.

    Frequently asked questions

Can you clean a pond with no yard access in Boston?

Usually, yes. We have worked through gates, side passages, and homes to reach ponds. We use hoses and compact pumps to move water, carry debris out in containers, and protect surfaces along the way. Tell us about the access when you call, and we will plan the right equipment.

Do you service courtyard fountainscapes too?

We do. Fountainscapes need less work than ponds, but basins still collect debris and pumps still wear. We can clean the reservoir, check the pump, clear mineral buildup on the stone, and handle seasonal shutdown and startup so the feature stays reliable.

How do you drain a pond in the city?

We look at where water can go before the visit. Pond water is often good for nearby garden beds, and on some properties there is a suitable drain. We discuss options with you ahead of time, so draining is planned rather than improvised on cleanout day.

How should I get my fish ready for spring?

Leave them alone until the water warms. Fish stay sluggish in cold water and should not get food until it holds steady at 55°F. A thermometer helps you track it. During your spring cleanout we check their condition and let you know when they are ready for the season.
